With a bit more searching through my folders, I probably have
more info if you need it. Do let me know if I can help further.  By the way,
I have not yet made a connection with your family of ALLENs to my husband's
ancestors in Shropham - which are William & Charlotte ALLEN living at
White Horse Street, Shropham in 1881.

From the age of your Robert on the 1851 census, it seems he was
born about 1811 in Rocklands - unfortunately I don''t yet have his baptism
but in time, I will check the registers ..... if you're not in a hurry!

Hope the above helps

Best Wishes

Heather

ROCKLAND ALL SAINTS and ROCKLAND ST. ANDREW'S.

These are two small united parishes, in the Southern division of
the county, Shropham hundred, Wayland union, Attleborough county
court district, rural deanery of Rockland, archdeaconry of
Norfolk and diocese of Norwich. The church of St. Andrews has
been in ruins many years. The church of All Saints is a small
flint building, consisting of Saxon nave, with fine specimen of
herringbone and ashlar work, and Early Perpendicular chancel,
with tower and 2 bells: it was restored in 1860: in the church
is a cable stetch tombstone, erroneously supposed to be that of
Eudo the dapifer of William of Normandy, whose remains were
brought from Preaux, in Normandy, where he died, and buried in
the Abbey of St. John, at Colchester, which he founded. The
register dates from the year 1698. The living is a consolidated
rectory, yearly value tithe rent-charge œ498, with 32 acres of
glebe and house, in the gift of and held since 1850 by the Rev.
Addison Browne Hemsworth M.A. of Pembroke College, Cambridge,
J.P. Norfolk. There is a fuel allotment of 26 acres, let at
about œ20. The workhouse of the Wayland Union, a handsome and
commodious building, is in this parish; for particulars of union
see Watton. Sir Bowyer Smijth bart. who is lord of the manor,
Robert Thompson Gurdon esq. M.P. George Tyrrell Tyrrell esq. and
Miss Hornbuckle are the principal landowners. The soil is mixed;
subsoil, gravel. The chief crops are wheat and barley. The area,
including Rockland St. Andrew's is 1,671 acres; combined
rateable value œ2,598; and the population in 1881 was _ St.
Andrew's, 98; All Saints, 324, including the inmates of the
