Louis H WHITNEY [Parents] was born 6 Aug 1863 in Alden, IA. He died 25 Aug 1935 in Libertyville, Ill.. Louis married Grace MCPHERSON.

Louis grew to young manhood in Alden and attended public school
there.

He took up the occupation of plumber and tinner early in life,
and worked for Wm. Keating, John Hoskin, and Wm Miller.  Following
his marriage his family moved to Dow, and then to Allison.  They
moved to Libertyville about 1900.

The 1920 Census shows Louis and his wife living in Libertyville, and still employed as a plumber.  His wife's name is listed as Martha in the Census.  

The 1910 Census shows him and his wife Martha in Libertyville township.  He is employed as a tinner in a hardware store. The Census shows Elmer living with them and identifies him as  a stepson.  The marriage column indicates that this is the second marriage for both Louis and Martha.

The 1900 Census shows Louis and Grace living in Alden with their children William Lee, Blanche, Maude and Kenneth

Grace McPherson is shown as Louis' spouse in Whitney history, and she is shown as dying in Alden in 1945.  Could Louis have separated or divorced before moving to Libertyville?

In the 1910 Census Grace is shown living with her parents, Dan and Emily MacPherson.

Grace MCPHERSON [Parents] was born 25 Jul 1870. She died 1945 in Alden, IA. Grace married Louis H WHITNEY.

A note from Mabel Whitney to Mr. Clark of the Iowa Falls
Monument Company asks that Grace McPherson's birth be noted as 1887.

In the 1910 Census Grace is shown living with her parents, Dan and Emily MacPherson, and in the 1920 Census she is a roomer in Iowa Falls.

Lyman Beecher ROGERS [Parents] was born 8 Jun 1860 in Whitney's Point, NY. He died 28 Jul 1931 in Alden, IA. Lyman married Ida May WHITNEY on 30 Jun 1886 in Alden, IA.

The 1900 census lists Lyman as a dry goods salesman.  Both his
parents

were born in New York.

Ida May WHITNEY [Parents] was born 31 Mar 1860 in Alden, IA. She died 13 Feb 1925 in Alden. Ida married Lyman Beecher ROGERS on 30 Jun 1886 in Alden, IA.


Earlman ROGERS was born about 1828. He married Lucy AUSTIN.

Lucy AUSTIN married Earlman ROGERS.

They had the following children:

  M i Lyman Beecher ROGERS was born 8 Jun 1860 and died 28 Jul 1931.

Henry William TODD [Parents] was born 18 Jan 1841 in Killawog, NY. He died 23 Oct 1912 in Marshalltown, Iowa. Henry married Jeannette BIGELOW.

In the 1870 Census Henry and Jeannette were shown residing at Alden.  Henry's occupation in that census was shown as miller.  There
were no children in the 1870 Census.

In the 1880 Census Henry and Jeannette were living in Denver. There were no dependents listed.  The Census shows that Jeannette (Bigelow) and her parents were born in Massachusetts.

In the 1900 Census Henry and Jeannette were still living in Denver. His occupation is shown as moving and delivery man for Pacific Express.  The Census shows two lodgers.

Enlisted in Company F, 2nd Iowa Cavalry, on August 9, 1861.  He was mustered out Sept 19, 1865, at Selma, Alabama.  For 25 years
after the close of the war he was employed by the Fargo Express Company at Denver.  He lived in Los Angeles for ten years, and returned to Iowa in 1911.  Among the relatives who attended the funeral were Mrs. A. C. Whitney, George Bigelow, Mr and Mrs L. B. Rogers (Ida May Whitney, dau. of Andrew Clow Whitney and Mary Gardner Todd), and Miss Mabel Whitney.  Mr and Mrs O. S Cleveland (Eva Rogers, dau. of Lucy Gardner and Jesse Rogers) of Webster City were also present.

Jeannette BIGELOW married Henry William TODD.


Chauncy Dwight TODD [Parents] was born 17 Jul 1844 in Killawog, NY. He died in New York, NY. Chauncy married Ellen BUTTON.

His boyhood days were spent in Alden, where he was a clerk at the L H Utley store.  During the Civil war he was a member of the 32nd
Iowa Infantry.  He married Ellen Button after the war.  They moved to Colorado where he was employed by the Singer sewing machine
company as head salesman for many years.  He spent his last days at the home of his daughter, Mrs Fred Roe, in New York.  He was buried at
Orange City NJ, by the side of his wife. He was the last of the civil war veterans from Alden.

Ellen BUTTON married Chauncy Dwight TODD.

They had the following children:

Albert James SAYER [Parents] was born 21 Apr 1889 in Hopton, Suffolk, England. He died 17 Dec 1982 in Minneapolis, Minn. USA. Albert married Bernadette DWYER.

The 1914 city directory for Minneapolis shows him living at 3009 Harriet Ave.  He is listed as a carpenter.  His brother Jack is shown as living at the same address
